Thalia

Senior Weyrwoman

Monaco Weyr

Thalia

Thalia is a small woman, only five feet tall and with a very lean, wiry build. For the most part, she has no figure, lacking such unimportant things such as breasts or noticable hips. Her coppery hair is very curly and she often cuts it short. The almond skin of her face is constantly plagued by freckles and she has very thin lips.

For most of her life, Thalia has taken to dressing in bright, almost gaudy colors. Her coming to Monaco Weyr seemed only to encourage this trend. Within her new position, though, she has either begun to calm down or pay less attention to clothes.

Her parents were both busy crafters who simply did not have the time to raise a child. She was fostered by her aunt, Sallia, who had quite a large brood of her own, including most of her cousins from other aunts and uncles. Thalia was one of their youngest children and tended to get frustrated early by the idea of being lost in a crowd. Instead, she became the child that was difficult to ignore, even if you wanted to. Her clothing is never anything less that flamboyant, or gaudy if you prefer and her voice is seldom low.

Obnoxious is not the only word to describe Thalia, however. In fact, noise is not really her goal in life. She wants to be a Harper and a good one. She joined the Hall as soon as she was old enough, but her voice doesn't make the grade with her fellow musicians. What she wanted to do, though, was to be a diplomat, like so many famous Master Harpers she had heard tales about.

When she was barely seventeen turns, Thalia's studies as a harper underwent their first distruption. On her way to the Fort Hold's library, she was met by a greenrider from the weyr. After an exchange of words, Thalia was off to Fort Weyr, where she would stand at Gold Llianth and Brown Honeath's clutch. Suddenly, she began to imagine a whole different realm of possibilities. Perhaps she would impress a hatchling and fly in one of Fort's fighting wings. The idea was thrilling, exciting and, unfortunately for Thalia, short lived. The hatching came and went, with the harper apprentice left standing on Fortian sands.

On the night of the hatching, Thalia went to the Fort living cavern to join in the celebration. While still a bit meloncholy with the results of the hatching, she was ready to get back to being a harper. As she was playing her xylophone with the other harpers, she met Journeyman Lyriana, who was posted at Monaco Weyr. Immediately, she liked the woman who offered her a temporary posting to the weyr. That night, she left with the Lyriana and Lyriana's weyrmate, T'nar to her new posting.

As she had expected, Thalia discovered that she really enjoyed living at Monaco Weyr. The climate was pleasant and she liked the people. She dearly missed her family, but she was also glad to feel more 'on her own'. When Lyriana suddenly retired from the craft, Thalia worried she would be sent back to the hall, and away from this place she had grown accustomed to.

She was nearly relieved when, after an eventful ride on Brown Xinth's back, she was asked by his lifemate, M'ial to stand at Gold Caladith and Brown Baedanth's clutch. She enjoyed candidacy, even as people began to wonder if a problem with the hatching sands had harmed the gold's eggs. Candidacy became more interesting when the current clutch was joined by Gold Leyrith and Bronze Rasnuth's eggs.

After the Fort candidacy, Thalia didn't hope for too much with the current pair of clutching. When the eggs began to rock, she stood near Teshar, who had become her good friend during candidacy. As she was talking nervously to him about the dragonets, she felt something soft touch her thigh. It was the gold hatchling she had been watching earlier. Then Gold Lorinyth's voice and presence filled her mind.

Weyrlinghood was uneventful for Thalia, as was much of the time afterward. Once graduated, she began a relationship with T'shar, rider of Green Evelynth. They remain good friends despite their splitting up a little over a year and a half later. She remained single after that, though she claims to be close to a recent aquiree from Smith Hall.

During those few years, Thalia worked to impress other goldriders such as Eliwys and Druscilla. She became confident that she was doing a fairly good job. Lorinyth had risen and produced a good clutch, despite being caught by a brown. Still, nothing could have prepared her for the weyrling graduation, when the ailing Senior Weyrwoman Eliwys removed her knot and handed it to Thalia before leaving for Harper Hall.
